I have slowly come to realise that life is a zero sum game. We can know this concept from the two phenomena which we can observe and I will mention about it below.
- First one is that when we come into this world we bring nothing. We come empty handed. In other words we come with a big zero. In the course of time, we come to have memories. Our bodies and minds get riddled with memories. What we do, what we experience, what is done to us, where we go etc, all become part of our memories. Then we lose some. We leave a city, we move out. Someone very dear to us leaves us, we leave a job, people may hurt us, spoil our life and the like. We may make a lot of money, buy a lot of cars and personal items, download a lot of stuff and so on. But then we leave the body. Every soul has to leave the body someday. Then what happens we leave with a zero. We cannot take anything at that time. Our bodies gets reduced to ashes and ashes are scattered and that is the end. Thus we come with a zero and leave with a zero.
- Now religion comes at that time and people say we don't leave with a 'zero'. What we do follows us. Like if we have done good, it 'follows us'. And if we have 'done bad' we have to face the outcome. Thus our 'karma' or 'what we have done in our lives' will be the basis of the 'afterlife' or what comes 'after life'. I will not delve into it and live it to the religious seers.
- My argument is that 'life is a zero sum game' and the second instance is that just like in a gamble game where the winner wins the game and takes away the 'prize'. But the winner does not take the prize which is 'his creation'. It is okay he may have won the prize due to skill or luck (skill is his but luck is factor beyond his control) it does not matter, but what matters is the 'prize' which he takes is nothing but the 'stake contributed by the environment and all the players including him (the winner)'. Thus one mans gain is other peoples loss. Same man can be replaced by organization. Thus one organization's gain is another organization loss. Thus, what one organization or person think 'he has earned' is actually 'the earning sacrificed by a either a lot of or some or few parties'. Same thing can also apply to 'countries'. Like if India wins then it will be at the expense of some other country. Similarly it can also apply to movies and culture and music for that matter. If Hindi film music is getting popular it would be at the expense of Western music or Indipop whatever. The vessel remains the same. In the case of our planet the 'vessel' remains the environment, but, in the case of movies or TV shows the 'vessel' remains 'channels' or cinema screens available and when these get 'occupied' by some then the opposite parties 'lose out' over the 'spoils'. The spoils are taken by the 'so called winner' who is nothing but a 'claimant' of the existing resources.
