- Watched the above documentary "Legend of Jagannath Puri" on Hotstar

- I realised that Lord Jagannath was a tribal God called "Neel Madhab".
- And some king from central India heard about the God being worshiped by the tribals and sent his emissary to find out.
- The emissary was unable to convince the tribal chieftain to see the God
- Then he stayed at the village and slowly married the daughter of the chieftain.
- Then convinced the daughter to convince the chieftain to make him see the God.
- Then he saw the magnificient image and after that rushed to his King.
- Then the King came but they found the God gone.
- He was disappointed but then he got a dream about a log floating at present day Puri which would be God.
- He found the log but nobody could carve through it.
- Then supposedly Vishwakarma from heavens came in an old man form and said that he would carve the image in 21 days provided no one disturbed him.
- In 15 days the King and Queen lost patience and opened the door to find Vishwakarma vanished and he left the incomplete image of Lord which is present day Jagannath, Subhadra and Balabhadra images.
- That is the story.
- Maybe it is just a story. Maybe it is real.
- If it is real, where did the original Neel Madhav disappear is my question.
- If it is real, why could the King and Queen not control themselves for six more days and we would have a perfect image of Lord.
- But that perfect image would have been the first image only.
- If Vishwakarma himself made the Lord's image it would mean no ordinary mortal could have made the image of God again and so the ritual of "Lord getting new body" or "Nabakalebara" could not have happened ever.
- If it is false maybe the Lord is false. And everybody has been taken for ride by the emissary of the King of Central India who happened to be Aryan by the way.
- It is one more case of Aryan invasion of Native lands existing from times immemorial.
- But if the story is true it is aligned with what Zakir naik used to say in his sermons.
- Zakir Naik used to say that the God Almighty cannot be compared to anything existing in this earth.
- If we can imagine something, means it is not God.
- God is infinitely beyond what ordinary humans can imagine.
- And Lord Jagannath is "incomplete image of God" as per legend.
- Because the actual image of God is beyond comprehension of ordinary mortals.
- In the end we cannot dispute that God exists else we become Athiests.
- Then who made the Athiests in the first place.
- Surely everything has an origin however mysterious.
- I guess praying to some God is better than praying to nothing at all.
- But in case of Lord Jagannath it is not just praying but elaborate rituals are attached as well and that makes it a living God.
