I went to my hometown of Bhubaneswar and was back to Bengaluru yesterday.
There has been a change. I left on May 18th, May 19th I shaved on the train.
Then May 19th onwards I stopped shaving and today is June 12th. And hence for almost one month I have not shaved. But I have shaved my moustache off. I have left the beard portion.
In my 35 years of life first time I have followed my instincts and stopped shaving. All folks at my native place were kind of shocked and used to remark that why I had not shaved and that I should shave. They were mystified by my reason for not shaving.
Don't know how long it would last but it feels good. After a lot of research on the net I have got a few advantages of the beard:
1) Shaving is like a form of mutilation. We do self mutilation by shaving. We go to saloon. Someone else does it for us and we pay him for it.
2) Beard is only way to distinguish man from woman and child. As woman and child is incapable of growing beard.
3) Beard makes a man beautiful. A woman is always beautiful. But a man is beautiful only with a beard.
God wants man to look the way he made him. And the natural and beautiful look is through beard.
4) After having beard, one is conscious of the fact to keep it clean. And hence one washes the face. I can say in my case earlier when I used to shave daily, I rarely used to wash my face especially if I was at office or outside of my house. When I returned I used to wash face with soap. But now whether I am outside or at home, I go to the nearest water source and wash my face with plain water.
When we shave we feel our face is clean and hence we don't feel the need to wash it regularly. My whole life I lived like that. But with beard we wash our face to keep it clean and hence we become more clean in the process.
5) We save a lot of time and effort involved in shaving. Also we save a little bit of money as well. In fact we can do away with blade, cream and brush.
In my case when I feel the urge to shave I knock my mustache off.
I don't feel we are less manly if we shave. In fact, when we shave we are more like an "adult man". As kids don't need to shave and women have other facilities at their disposal. By not shaving we are more like kids. As kids don't need to shave. It is due to the age that the beard grows.
A man who shaves to look like a kid or woman who do not have beard, but he does it carrying out a 'manly act' of shaving. But a man who grows a beard does not do that 'act' of shaving and kids and women don't need to shave. Thus he is more like a kid or woman but he looks like a 'man'. My look as on 9th June (after 21 days of not shaving the beard).
During my MBA days, I had a professor by the name Nathan and he had told/ advised the students that one should either shave daily or one should grow a beard. That unshaven look like Hritik Roshan and the like does not work. Somehow it has imprinted on my mind and I fully support the view.
Hritik Roshan, John Abraham, Aftab Shivdasani, Arjun Kapoor and most other heroes sport the unshaven look. Not beard not clean shaven but 'unshaven'. That is wrong I feel personally. Because they are heroes of film industry they can do it, we can't. Either it is clean shaven or it is full beard whether with or without mustache.

Will continue the above if I get more points to write about.
Today I watched Hindi movie "Hungama" on Videocon D2H. Excellent comedy movie. I liked it.

I like the unshaven look. I myself keep it. I never shave, i always trim. The last time i shaved was like 1.5 years ago. Since i became adult, i might have shave just around 30-40 times.
ReplyDeleteI too have a bought a trimmer. Philips Trimmer QT4005 to be precise. Bought it from ebay day before and received it yesterday. But I have to wait till my beard grows when I would start using it.
