Cultural baggage of Twitter

I will say that I have been using Twitter for a few days and what I feel is as below:
  • Twitter is like carrying on an extra baggage on your bag. You feel burdened if you have a Twitter account.
  • Twitter forces you to be fixated to your screen. It gives you less freedom of movement compared to watching TV or Watching a movie or going for a walk and the like.
  • People you follow you become subjected to them. So what happens Twitter ensures that you get a dose of cultural hegemony.
  • The cultural hegemony is what can be termed a "cultural imperialism of Twitter"
  • Just like the British ruled over India in pre-independence times, Twitter simply rules over you.
  • So what do you need to do? To get away from the cultural hegemony of Twitter.
  • You can stop following people.
  • You can uninstall it from your smartphone/tablet.
  • Best is if you delete the account. Like they say in India "Na bachega baas na bajega bansuri". It means that if the musical instrument is destroyed/removed from the picture then there is no way that tune can be played and thus noise pollution can be avoided.
So after analysing the above, I have decided to delete Twitter account once more. Please note that while writing this blog I have already unfollowed more than 1500 people/accounts and already removed the Twitter app from my smartphone.
But I will analyse what I have done before coming to this decision.
  • I had opened two accounts like I had outlined in another blogpost.
  • Then I searched whether accounts can be merged in Twitter and Twitter says that they have no facility to merge accounts.
  • So I decided to follow all from one account in the other.
  • Then I unfollowed all from that account and then I deleted the account.
  • So I was left with only one account with around 1500 accounts/users I was following. 900 + from one account and 500 + from another account.
  • Now what happened that the news feed was too crumpled and then I realised very important facts.
  • Twitter is like a Window from a train (for example). You cannot keep peeking out of the window you will go crazy. You keeping peeking out from time to time and then you get a picture which is the picture at that very instant; what you missed you missed you cannot get it back. The Twitter window is the Newsfeed which we get.
  • What happens in Twitter stays in Twitter. That is applicable for those who stay in Twitter. But those who leave Twitter it doesn't matter. Also like I write about Twitter in the blog it not the same for me anymore that 'What Happens in Twitter stays in Twitter'.
  • I feel Twitter creates a few "dummy accounts" by itself. Else someone does it using Twitter. They are like 'mechanical accounts' and they follow you like 'automatically', like 'bots'. Just so that you feel that Twitter is for real. I mean nothing wrong with that. You feel wanted and you feel 'valued'. It helps people who are depressed with life, they take confidence in the fact that they have several followers. How I knew it? I knew it from the fact that a few accounts which followed me had the same pattern of images.
In the end I will say Goodbye to Twitter and will try to praise those who carry this "Twitter baggage" around their lives. They can continue to lead their lives and help and inspire others while still being on Twitter and that is great.
