People I have seen total ruin of Bangalore in past several years. There is destruction of lakes, green cover is lost and temperatures have soared.
This is due to the land mafia. The same people who wanted a project like Hosur Road flyover in operation, like kind of same people are encroaching upon the lakes.
There is a history of that and we can see it repeating area after area in Bangalore.
I remember in 2006 May, I saw a program on NDTV channel and Anil Kumble was on the talk/discussion kind of program and he was telling as the USP of Bangalore and I will reproduce his words, "In which other major city can you wear a jacket in the month of May?"
It so happened that even in the month of May the temperatures were very low in Bangalore. I know from my own experience that Bangalore had similar kind of temperature around the year. It was neither too cold in winter nor too hot in summer.
But since two-three years is becoming hotter and hotter in Bangalore in summer. Earlier it used to be April-May and then March-April-May and this year the 'hotness' started from February onwards.
Initially when I came to Bangalore in 2004, I remember every alternate day there used to be rain. And now last year also the rain was okay but not the year before that. Let us see what this year holds in terms of monsoon and stuff. If rains fail, it will not be just Bangalore which gets affected but entire India.
Also, I remember that mist used to form quite regularly and now formation of mist/fog has become rarer.
Encroaching of lakes usually happens in a big wetland where there is begun the system of dumping of waste. This waste is usually the "demolition wastes" which consists of bricks and mortar and other construction material. Slowly and slowly the dumping goes on increasing from few truckloads to hundreds of truckloads. The traffic police must usually be getting bribe to turn a blind eye to this. Also, much dumping would be happening in the 'dead of the night'. After several months we will find the wet land which usually would be a very huge area with green water plants and all would go missing and all would be visible is a small patch of water body which obviously would be barren as it would be unable to sustain life.
Then the people will rise to the occassion and only a small patch of waterbody will remain as a lake when much of the waterbody is irreversibly lost. Then construction activity will commence after putting metal boundaries by some builder. In a few years time we will find tall buildings standing where once there used to be green covered wetlands.
It is unfortunate. I am unable to find the words to describe such a horrendous operation in progress. Many times police and politicians are hands-in-glove with this and they will have their own "share" in this. All permissions will be obtained through 'whatever means necessary'.
Many areas in North Bangalore, South Bangalore and other areas would be under the grip such kind of operation. This is Mafia Raj.
Growth of Bangalore has its share of this destruction. Recently also one article has come that Bangalore is a 'Garden City' only in name. Actually it is now an urban wasteland kind of situation.
In 2008, Bangalore got a new airport and then what came with it maximum width roads and flyovers. These flyovers are nothing but a way to make "trips of cars and buses increase". The more "runs a car or taxi or bus makes", the more is the heat generated and same heat is 'dissipated in the environment' increasing the temperature.
